Externally Funded Assistant Professorships

Externally funded assistant professorships make it possible for highly qualified young researchers who are pursuing an academic career to establish their own research group and to conduct an independent research project. They are awarded and funded by either UZH or the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). From 2018 onwards, SNSF Professorships are being replaced by SNSF Eccellenza Professorships.

All externally funded assistant professors are paid their salary in accordance with the provisions that apply within UZH, as their host university. Further details of salary arrangements are set out in the following fact sheet.

Salaries for externally funded assistant professorships, 2024 (PDF, 70 KB)

SNSF assistant professors are insured by UZH with the VSAO pension fund.

SNSF Eccellenza professors, as well as externally funded UZH assistant professors, are insured by UZH with the BVK pension fund.

SNSF Eccellenza Professors are asked

• to complete the Employment decision form (in german) (PDF, 472 KB), have it signed by the head of department responsible and
• to submit it, with the enclosures listed in the form
• as well as the «Previous positions» form (PDF, 504 KB),
