You need a login to use many of the IT services offered by UZH. This login authenticates you as a member of the University.
Before you start work, the Information Technology office will create a UZH or ITIM (identity management) account for you. You can use this to manage all of your UZH-related accounts and passwords in the future.
As a newly appointed UZH professor, you will receive a letter from UZH-IT which contains your:
- full name for UZH purposes,
- UZH short name (e.g. fmuste in the case of Felix Muster),
- an initial password,
- and a UZH e-mail address (typically firstname.surname@uzh.ch).
Enclosed with this letter are instructions on setting your password for the first time within the identity management system.

All of the services offered by the Information Technology office, as well as information on questions relating to accounts and passwords, the internet and software, etc., can be found via the IT portal for staff.
