In Switzerland, a complete application portfolio usually consists of a cover letter or letter of motivation, a curriculum vitae and copies of all previous job references and diplomas. All documents must be written in one of the national languages (German, French or Italian). International companies also accept applications in English in some cases. To ensure that your application stands out among the portfolios submitted, it is important that your documents are carefully prepared.
Cover Letter
At first glance, the cover letter or letter of motivation should spark the reader's interest and ultimately convince them that you are the ideal candidate for the advertised or vacant position. First impressions count – the people responsible decide in a matter of seconds whether they want to keep reading a file or put it aside: Structure your writing clearly, pay attention to flawless grammar and spelling and express your interest and suitability as briefly and concisely as possible. The letter should not exceed one A4 page.
Curriculum vitae (CV)
The curriculum vitae is the core of your application together with the cover letter. Similar rules apply here: Structure your CV clearly (in table format), be precise and keep the text as short as possible. It is advisable to list education and professional development chronologically in descending order (most recent at the top).
Interview
Prepare yourself meticulously: Inform yourself thoroughly about the potential future employer, think about your personal qualifications and ask yourself what exactly sets you apart for this position.
