Paid Leave

There is a wide variety of occasions on which professors are entitled to paid leave in addition to their ordinary vacation. Paid leave is granted in particular for family events (e.g. wedding) and personal matters (e.g. moving).

Requests for paid leave may be refused or restrictions may be imposed in the event of overriding official interests.

Here are some examples of events along with their respective paid leave entitlements:

  • Own wedding – three working days
  • Birth of one’s own child (for the father)* – ten working days
  • Medical and dental appointments – the time required
  • Sickness or accident in the family, if no other assistance is available – the time required, up to a maximum of two working days per event
  • Sickness or accident in the family for families with their own small or school-age children – the time required, up to a maximum of five working days per event
  • Moving apartment or room – one working day
